Direct Current Podcast

In March 2016, to acquire a new generation’s attention, I pioneered the launch of Direct Current, the first narrative-driven podcast in government history. The podcast quickly made its mark, claiming the top spot on iTunes as the leading government podcast, ranking within the Top 100 overall, and holding the third spot as the most "buzzed about" for four consecutive weeks. Over two seasons and 25 episodes, Direct Current garnered an expanding audience, accumulating over 100,000 downloads.

Noteworthy endorsements from influential figures such as Bill Gates and accolades from publications like The Verge, Politico, and Citylab commend the podcast's superior production value, compelling storytelling, and its ability to demystify complex subjects. Engadget, Digitaltrends, and Greenbiz.com further praised the show's slick production, accessibility, and creative approach, highlighting its unique and engaging perspective within the realm of government-produced content.

Reviews

  • Direct Current flaunts better production value and storytelling than 99 percent of podcasts.

    The Verge

  • Production was slick. Thumbs up!

    Politico

  • High production quality, catchy tunes, and an accessible take on relevant, often-complicated subject matter.

    Citylab

  • In all seriousness, this one is pretty good.

    Digitaltrends

  • It isn’t often that the word ‘creative’ is used to describe the work of a government agency, but this show produced by the U.S. Department of Energy is oddly very creative. It's heavy on humor and full of clips and sound effects.

    Greenbiz.com

  • It's slickly produced.
